About the Course

​This workshop is your gateway to developing essential wound closure skills in a supportive, interactive environment. Designed specifically for physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants with little to no prior suturing experience, Suture Fundamentals lays the groundwork for safe, effective, and confident wound management in clinical practice.

Learn the fundamentals of wound assessment—how to evaluate depth, location, contamination risk, and tissue viability to determine the most appropriate closure approach. We’ll walk through how to choose the right local anesthetic based on the clinical scenario, and you’ll get practical experience in administering it correctly and comfortably.

The hands-on portion of the course focuses on the techniques you’ll use most often in urgent care, primary care, emergency, and procedural settings.

Skills you will learn:

• Wound assessment & closure decision-making

• Instrument handling & suture material selection

• Simple interrupted sutures

• Running (continuous) sutures

• Vertical & horizontal mattress sutures

• Use of skin adhesives, steri-strips, and staples

• Tips to reduce scarring and improve healing outcomes

• Great for clinicians working in urgent care, family medicine, emergency settings, or those looking to refresh after time away from the bedside.
