About the event

Lab Mastery: CBC & CMP Essentials

Live Online Workshop: Saturday, January 10th, 10 AM–1 PM CST

You’ve seen it before . . . a critically high potassium, a plummeting platelet count, or an anemia that doesn't follow the expected laboratory pattern. In the clinic or the ED, your diagnosis hinges on your ability to interpret those numbers fast.

The truth is, school taught you how to memorize lab values. It rarely taught you the real-world clinical framework needed to manage a patient based on them. Too often, lab interpretation feels like decoding a cryptic message. You waste precious minutes flipping through resources when you should be acting.

It’s time to stop second-guessing yourself.

In this live, interactive 3-hour workshop, you’ll learn to interpret the two most commonly ordered and clinically useful lab panels, the Complete Blood Count (CBC) and the Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP), with confidence and connect them to real patient scenarios in primary care, internal medicine, and acute care settings. This course is focused on real-world application, rapid decision-making, and initial treatment planning, not just recalling facts. We don't just teach you what the reference range is; we teach you what to do next when a value is outside of it.

Includes replay access, downloadable workbook, and certificate of completion.

What You'll Learn

In just three hours, you’ll learn to:

  • Interpret key abnormalities in CBC and CMP panels using a simple, repeatable framework.

  • Recognize common pathologic patterns such as anemia types, leukocytosis trends, and electrolyte or hepatic abnormalities.

  • Correlate findings with patient context and determine next diagnostic or treatment steps.

  • Avoid common interpretation errors and unnecessary follow-up testing.

Course Structure

Total Duration: 3 Hours • Format: Live Online + Replay

Module 1 – The CBC: Beyond the Numbers (1 hour)

Understand RBC indices, WBC differential, and platelets.

  • Differentiate micro- vs macro- vs normocytic anemia and the underlying etiologies

  • Interpret WBC shifts (infection / stress / malignancy)

  • Identify causes of thrombocytopenia and take next steps in management

Module 2 – The CMP: Organ Function in Context (1 hour)

Decode electrolytes, renal, and hepatic panels.

  • Recognize dehydration vs AKI patterns

  • Decode Na/K/Cl/HCO₃ for acid–base clues

  • Distinguish hepatocellular vs cholestatic LFTs

  • Understand albumin & bilirubin as markers of liver function

Module 3 – Case Challenge: Putting It Together (1 hour)

Work through real-world cases integrating CBC + CMP interpretation.

  • Practice clinical decision-making with real patient scenarios

  • Decide next steps in work-up and management

  • Reinforce your pattern-recognition framework

Included Materials

  • Downloadable Lab Interpretation Workbook (cases + reference tables)

  • CBC & CMP cheat sheets for everyday use

  • Certificate of Completion

  • 30-day replay access
