Saturday, December 6 (8a-4p) – Suturing & Abscess I&D: learn the art of wound closure and abscess management with guided practice and instructor feedback.


Sunday, December 7 (8a-4p)Biopsies, Splinting & Nail Procedures: practice core dermatologic and orthopedic techniques every PA or NP should know.


You’ll work with real instruments, high-quality models, and small groups . . . no watching from the back row. Lunch is included, and every attendee leaves with skills they can use Monday morning.

What You'll Learn

Over two days, you’ll gain practical experience with essential office, urgent care, and dermatologic procedures:


Day 1 – Suturing & Abscess I&D


Suturing Essentials

  • Principles of wound assessment and closure selection

  • Simple interrupted, vertical mattress, horizontal mattress, and running sutures

  • Subcuticular and deep dermal closure techniques

  • Proper use of forceps, needle drivers, and knot-tying efficiency

  • Local anesthesia and field block techniques


Abscess I&D

  • Incision and drainage of abscesses (with simulated purulent models)

  • Packing, dressing, and post-procedure wound management



Day 2 – Splinting, Nail Procedures & Skin Biopsy


Splinting

  • Thumb-spica, ulnar-gutter, sugar-tong, and posterior-leg splints

  • Splint type selection, proper application, follow-up care

  • Padding, molding, and securing splints for patient comfort


Nail Procedures

  • Digital nerve block technique and safety

  • Partial and total nail avulsion for ingrown nails

  • Subungual hematoma trephination

  • Paronychia drainage and post-procedure care


Skin Biopsy

  • Shave, punch, and excisional skin biopsy techniques

  • Specimen handling and labeling for pathology

  • Hemostasis options: pressure, aluminum chloride, electrocautery
