About the Course
Managing skin and soft tissue infections is a core skill in urgent care, emergency, and primary care settings—but for many clinicians, performing an incision and drainage can feel intimidating without proper training and practice.

This workshop is designed for physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants seeking to build or reinforce their I&D skills in a supportive, hands-on environment. No prior procedural experience is required.

We start by covering the essential clinical reasoning behind I&D procedures:
-
How to recognize abscesses that require intervention
-
When to treat conservatively vs. when to perform I&D
-
Anatomical considerations and red flags to avoid complications

You'll get hands-on training in:
-
Proper anesthesia techniques for abscess management
-
Step-by-step incision and drainage technique
-
Wound exploration and irrigation
-
Packing vs. non-packing strategies
-
Post-procedure care and patient instructions

Through guided instruction and one-on-one feedback, you’ll gain the technical skills and clinical confidence needed to safely and effectively manage abscesses in your practice. The course uses realistic simulation models that mimic abscess tissue and allow you to practice in a no-pressure setting.

Whether you’re a new clinician or looking to expand your procedural skill set, this workshop gives you practical tools you can apply immediately in the clinic.
